Troubleshooting

🔌 Extension Not Working

If ads are still showing after installing the browser extension:

Solution:
  • Verify the extension is enabled in your browser's extension settings
  • Check that the extension icon shows "Protected" status
  • Clear your browser cache (Ctrl+Shift+Delete)
  • Disable other ad blockers temporarily to check for conflicts
  • Make sure you're not on the whitelist

🌐 Website Not Loading

If a website appears broken or won't load:

Solution:
  • Click the extension icon and select "Whitelist this site"
  • Try disabling specific features (Element Hiding, Cosmetic Filtering)
  • Check if the site requires JavaScript to be enabled
  • Report the issue at GitHub Issues

⚡ High CPU Usage

If StreamShield is using excessive CPU or memory:

Solution:
  • Reduce the number of enabled filter lists
  • Clear the cache in the extension settings
  • Disable visual detection features
  • Check for extension conflicts by disabling other extensions

📱 Mobile VPN Issues

If the Android app VPN keeps disconnecting:

Solution:
  • Disable battery optimization for the StreamShield app
  • Allow the app to run in the background
  • Check that VPN permission is granted
  • Reinstall the app if issues persist

🔧 Dashboard Won't Load

If the dashboard at localhost:8081 won't load:

Solution:
  • Verify the desktop proxy is running (check system tray)
  • Check if port 8081 is available: netstat -ano | findstr :8081
  • Restart the StreamShield service
  • Check Windows Firewall settings
